CORPORATE PROFILE:
WHO WE ARE Microsat Systems Canada Inc. (MSCI) is a privately held Canadian corporation. Formerly the space division of Dynacon Inc., MSCI has been the premiere builder of microsatellites in Canada for over a decade. MSCI is the founding company of COMMStellation™ - a consortium of companies formed to build and deploy a constellation of low earth orbit (LEO) microsatellites to address global backhaul and connectivity markets. COMMStellation™ microsatellites are based on the proven MSCI Multi Mission Microsatellite Bus (MMMB) platform with years of flight heritage in the MOST microsatellite and soon the NEOSSat microsatellite. OUR HERITAGE Our reputation for excellence is well established for building, deploying, and operating microsatellites based on carefully selected commercial electronics that will perform for many years in LEO orbits. MSCI was selected as prime contractor for the MOST microsatellite by the Canadian Space Agency in the late 1990’s. This innovative space telescope was successfully launched on June 30, 2003 and continues to perform beyond specification. MSCI was also selected as prime contractor for the NEOSSat microsatellite, now in production. The MSCI microsatellite design was chosen by the Canadian Space Agency as the baseline design for their MMMB. WHAT WE DO MSCI is Canada’s leader in the design, development and delivery of cost-effective, adaptable Multi Mission Microsatellite Buses capable of hosting a wide variety of communications, remote sensing, scientific and military payloads. MSCI also has proven capabilities in systems engineering analysis, the development of sophisticated, cost-effective attitude control system solutions and their implementation into flight hardware and software. MSCI provides commercial, military, and civil space agencies with space technology that enables services for commercial applications, space exploration, and surveillance of the earth from space. The key to our success and why we are different from other satellite companies is our use of carefully selected, high quality commercial electronics that work in space. Because we don’t have to endure the high cost and long schedule delays to procure traditional “space grade” electronics, we enable commercial business cases that others can’t. This isn’t a capability that a company can develop overnight. Others have tried and failed. OUR HISTORY MSCI is an organization with a legacy of over twenty years of successful space business. In 1975, the Canadian Space Agency formed an elite team to help with the dynamics, control, and robotics of the NASA Space Shuttle robot arm. Later, this team worked on the more complex robotics of the International Space Station. That team, which became Dynacon Inc., went on to develop satellite control system products, to construct complete microsatellites, and to perform advanced systems analyses of space robotics. When Dynacon decided to focus its attention on automated specimen processors, David Cooper, leader of the Space Division, purchased it to form MSCI, to which he brings his years of expertise with Dynacon,Spar Aerospace, and the Canadian space industry. Along with Mr. Cooper came Dynacon’s cadre of exceptional aerospace engineers, ensuring MSCI retained the consistency of quality and expertise space customers have come to expect and rely on.
